A preliminary tally shows hunters in Texas County killed 4,375 deer before the season ended Tuesday.

Texas County placed second in the fall firearms deer season, the Missouri Department of Conservation reported.

The breakdown in the county: Bucks, 2,024; button bucks, 449; and does, 1,902. 

This year’s count surpassed the tally from 2016 when 3,562 deer were killed in Texas County (to place the county third in the state). 

The top three counties were: Howell (4,568), Texas (4,375) and Franklin (4,097).
