A restaurant offering breakfast and lunch recently began serving customers in downtown Houston.
“Betty’s on Grand” is on Grand Avenue adjacent to Rascalz Youth Club and Community Center. Coowners Betty Richter and Jimmy Hutcheson said the establishment is actually a “cafe and bakery.”
“Everything is 100-percent home made,” Richter said, “including breakfast lunch and things from the bakery.”
The full breakfast menu at Betty’s includes omelets, biscuits and gravy, meats and more, while lunch features burgers, sandwiches, soups, chicken and salads. Local meat is used, including Lybyer Beef and Ice Farms pork. Daily specials will be offered at both meals, and Fridays will feature fish.
Take out is available, and orders can be picked up by vehicle from the pick-up window in the alley next to Betty’s. Delivery is also available – to businesses only – within a radius including most of Houston’s city limits.
“In an area that’s within reason,” Hutcheson said.
Baked goods offered will include homemade pies, cookies, cinnamon buns and more, some of which will be gluten-free. Orders can be placed for pies.
For about two years, Richter has owned Memories and Dreams (located a couple of doors down from the new restaurant), while Hutcheson also has a farm in the county.
“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Richter said. “I wanted it to be something like Cracker Barrel, and with my other store and this place, it’s like that if you consider it’s all one.”

“I would say the freshness and the quality,” Richter said.
“And the amazing atmosphere,” Hutcheson quipped.
