Two teachers in the Houston R-1 School District will retire at the end of the current school year.
At last Tuesday’s monthly meeting, the school board accepted resignations from Janet Dyer and Dana Harper. Dyer is a diagnostician at the Exceptional Child Cooperative and Harper is a middle and high school special education teacher.
The board also hired Jeff Richardson as middle school assistant girls’ basketball coach and Jamie Story as special education paraprofessional pending a background check. Richardson replaces Patti Roberts, whose immediate resignation was accepted by the board.
Also at the meeting, school board members:
• Received and approved an annual audit from Mike Catlett, who said he found no concerns.
• Accepted evaluations from district librarians Janet Hall and Sherry Gatlin.
• Increased homebound pay for district instructors from $16 to $20 per hour. The move matches the rate paid for tutors.
• Approved a policy requiring employees to participate in a health risk assessment as part of insurance premiums beginning with the 2018-’19 school year. Employees who do not complete the evaluation will only receive 80 percent payment for their insurance premium.
• Were led in the pledge of allegiance by HHS student of the month Dawson Koch and HMS student of the month nominee Anna Gale.
