The following fires involved responses from area departments:
• The Licking Fire Department responded about 8:45 a.m. Saturday to a report of hay bales and grass on Reed Road south of Licking. The Raymondville Fire Department was called later for mutual aide but wasn’t needed.
• The Houston Rural Fire Department was called to a grass fire about 2 p.m. Friday south of Houston. The blaze was at 16490 Hog Creek Road and seemed to originate from an outdoor wood pellet stove.
• A grass fire was reported out of control just before noon last Tuesday on Success Road. The Roby Fire Department responded to the blaze, which was across the road from 13731 Success Road, authorities said.
Recent dry conditions helped spark several fires in Texas County.
