Perhaps it was the weather or apathy, but the closing of filings on Tuesday brought few candidates.
Two races will appear on the April ballot in the City of Houston: Kevin Stilley will oppose incumbent Joe Honeycutt in Ward I. Charles “Chalky” Wells and Fawn Bell are candidates for the Ward II seat held by Sheila Walker, who did not seek re-election. Running unopposed in Ward III are Alderman Viki Narancich.
At Raymondville School, only incumbent Allan Branstetter filed. The other member, Doug Swan, did not file.
A five-year term on the Texas County Memorial Hospital board appears on the April ballot. The position is held by Jay Loveland, who refiled.
Re-filing for Houston board of education are incumbents Leon Slape and Stacie Ely, as well as Tim Malam. The terms are three years.
Plato School Board: Incumbent Clint Todd filed. Also declaring was Mike Humphrey. Penny Morrison did not seek re-election.
No one answered at the Success School, where classes were dismissed due to inclement weather.
Voters will decide three, four-year positions on the Texas County Emergency Services Board. It oversees a three-eighths cent sales tax for 911 services in Texas County. Filing were incumbents Brad Evans, Houston; and Bill Bridges, Houston. Also filings were Glen McKinney, Houston; and Hope Martin, Licking. James Sigman, the Texas County sheriff, did not seek re-election.
