Houston senior Kaitlyn Root scored a career-high 34 points Monday night in a home conference loss to Willow Springs.

Root had 12 of the team’s 16 field goals and was 10-for-12 at the free-throw line. She scored 20 points in the second half.

Houston, which had won five of its previous seven games, fell behind by as many as 25 points in the third quarter before rallying within seven with 4 minutes, 24 seconds remaining. But Willow Springs got two quick baskets to stop the 21-3 spurt and hold on.
