Inclement weather in the region led to postponements for a handful of Houston High School basketball games.
The Lady Tigers conference matchup with Ava last Thursday was pushed back a day due to the threat of poor weather. It was later canceled Friday morning due to a school function that involved several Ava players.
Athletic director Brent Hall announced Wednesday morning that the game will be played as part of a tripleheader Feb. 2 on Hoop Queen Night. Following the coronation at 5 p.m., the junior varsity boys will kick off the night with the varsity Lady Tigers and Tigers following.
The Tigers’ home game Tuesday night with Bourbon was postponed as poor traveling conditions lingered from snow Sunday and Monday that also dismissed classes. The game has been rescheduled for 6 p.m Saturday.
The Lady Tigers were also scheduled to play Tuesday night but were postponed. Their matchup with Couch in the Thayer Winter Classic will be played at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
TIGERS, LADY TIGERS SET FOR TOURNEY PLAY
Both the Lady Tigers and Tigers will be in tournament action in the coming days.
The HHS girls have consecutive tournaments as they play this week in the Thayer Winter Classic and next week compete in the Mansfield Invitational.
Seeded fourth at Thayer, the No. 4 Lady Tigers begin play Thursday with a 6 p.m. matchup with the hosts. On Friday, Houston plays Couch at 7:30 p.m.
The finals are Saturday. The third-place teams in each pool play at 4 p.m., followed by the runners-up at 5:30 p.m. and championship at 7 p.m.
The Lady Tigers are seeded seventh in next week’s 28th annual Mansfield Invitational.
HHS places No. 2 Conway at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the opening round.
The semifinals are 6 and 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25. The consolation semifinals are the next day.
The consolation final, third-place game and championship are Jan. 27 beginning at 4:30 p.m.
The Tigers open play in the Conway Invitational on Monday against Stoutland. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
Win or lose, Houston will play again Thursday against Conway or Niangua. The winners play at 9 p.m. while the losers play at 4:30 p.m.
The final round of games are Friday, Jan. 26, beginning with the seventh-place game at 4:30 p.m. The consolation matchup is 6 p.m., third place is 7:30 p.m. and the championship tips off at 9 p.m.
