Members of the Houston City Council authorized its city administrator Monday to act on its behalf with the Missouri Department of Transportation grant programs.

The city is set to receive a new bus for its transportation system sometime this month. City Administrator Tona Bowen and City Clerk Heather Sponsler traveled Jan. 25 to Jefferson City to participate in a transportation meeting. The next grant is due March 1 to cover July 2018-2019.

In other matters, city council members:

• Authorized wiping off personal property taxes off the books for 2014. The debt totaled $88.

• Donated $200 to Celebration for Life, the organization that spearheads post-prom and post-graduation for students at Houston High School.

• Heard a thank you note read from the Maddox family who lost their home to fire in December at Hawthorn and Hamrick. The city said plans call for the structure to be soon destroyed and grass seeded.
