An offensive outburst Saturday night lifted the Houston baseball team to its first win of 2018.

Gavin Alston, Sterling Jackson and Jacob Koch drove in three runs apiece as the Tigers blew out St. Paul 21-2 in four innings to conclude the Eminence Wood Bat Tournament.

Jackson went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored for HHS (1-1). Ty McCloud, Cody Allen, Braedin Groff and Koch had two hits apiece.

Freshman Alex Castleman worked three innings for the complete-game victory. He allowed two hits and two earned runs while striking out six and walking three.

Ahead 2-1 after the first inning, Houston took a commanding lead with six runs in the second and eight more in the third.

It was a completely different story in Friday’s season opener. The Tigers had just two hits – singles by McCloud and Allen – in a 3-0 defeat to Ellington.

Jackson, a sophomore, gave up three hits and three earned runs – one earned – in three innings in the loss. He struck out five and walked three.
