Evelyn Aileen Crane Sykes, 84, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Mountain View Health Care.
She was born Sept. 28, 1933, in Summersville, daughter of Howard and Allie Mae Stayton Bryson. She and Bill Crane were married in 1958. She later married William Thurman Sykes on Sept. 12, 2009.
She attended Licking High School and later went to St. Louis to earn her cosmology license. She returned to Summersville, where she ran a beauty salon for several years.
She and her husband, Bill, raised bulldogs. She loved caring for them.
She was a member of Eunice Baptist Church. She was the church pianist for many years. She loved the Lord and served him any way she could.
She was also a member of the Summersville Order of Eastern Star Chapter 363 for several years.
She liked to complete word-search books, collect angels and visit with family.
After her health declined, she went to live at Mountain View Health Care. She loved her caregivers as her own family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Bill Crane and Thurman Sykes; a son, Raymond Crane; a grandson; and a great grandson.
Survivors include three children, Billy Crane of Eunice and Andre Havens and Howard Crane of Summersville; six stepchildren, Thurman Sykes, Sharon Odom, Terry Sykes, Gary Sykes, Rhonda Holden, Randy Sykes; 32 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Barnett; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were Friday, March 23, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel, Summersville, with the Rev. Brad Wallace officiating. Burial was in Summersville City Cemetery.
