Five Houston High School basketball players were honored for standout seasons with selections to the South Central Association all-conference team.
Senior Kaitlyn Root led the HHS picks with a spot on the girls’ first team. It is her second straight year receiving the honor.
Sophomore Clayton Moore was a second team selection on the boys’ team.
Ally Morgan, Chloe Hunninghake and Ty McCloud all received honorable mention.
Root, who was also named last week to the all-district team, averaged a team-best 19.8 points per game and led the Lady Tigers with 6.8 rebounds. She shot 52 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free-throw line.
Root scored 526 points her final season to finish with 1,061 career points.
HHS sophomore Clayton Moore led the Tigers in scoring to earn all-SCA second team honors in 2017-18.
Moore, a sophomore guard, was the Tigers’ leading scorer at 11.7 points per game. He also averaged 3.5 rebounds and one assist. Moore connected on 53.2 percent of his two-point field goals and 30.3 percent from downtown.

HHS junior Ally Morgan ranked second on the team in scoring and rebounding in 2017-18. She was named to the all-SCA honorable mention team.
Morgan, a junior forward, was second on the team in both scoring (9.1) and rebounding (6.6). She shot a team-best 58 percent from the field and 72 percent from the line.
Morgan was her best in district play as she had career highs of 17 and 21 points in the opener and semifinals. Morgan led the team in scoring in two of the Lady Tigers’ three postseason games.

Senior Chloe Hunninghake led the Lady Tigers in 3-pointers and was third on the team in scoring. She received honorable mention all-SCA honors.
Hunninghake, a senior guard, was the Lady Tigers’ top perimeter shooter. She ranked third on the team with 8.9 points per game as well as 3.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists. Hunninghake shot 33 percent from downtown.

Houston senior Ty McCloud led the Tigers in rebounding and was second in scoring. He was named honorable mention on the all-SCA team.
McCloud, a senior forward, ranked second on the team with 9.5 points per game and led the Tigers with five rebounds per game. He also handed out 1.5 assists per game. McCloud shot 43.4 percent from the field.
The Lady Tigers advanced to the district championship game for the fifth straight year in 2018. They finished with a 12-16 record in their second season under coach Jim Moore.
The Tigers were 7-20 in their second season with coach Rod Gorman. The team battled injuries the entire season as they had just one game with their entire lineup intact.
