A Texas County man is charged with two felonies after a sheriff’s department investigation related to an incident allegedly involving a pistol and his girlfriend.

Sean M. Mitchell, 35, of 1580 Onyx Cave Road at Mountain Grove, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon (while intoxicated) and unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to a report, a woman contacted the county sheriff’s department on Sunday indicating her live-in boyfriend – Mitchell – had become violent and was waving a gun around at their residence. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the woman who said she and Mitchell had gotten into an argument and he had taken a .22 caliber pistol out of a gun cabinet and was waving it around while yelling and being belligerent.

The woman told the officer Mitchell had been drinking – but wasn’t drunk – and that she was scared.

After a second deputy arrived, officers knocked on the home’s door, but nobody answered. The woman then gave consent to search the home for Mitchell, and after more officers arrived as back-up, he was eventually found in the master bedroom.

The gun was in a nightstand where the woman had put it after Mitchell reportedly tossed it on the bed. A .22-caliber rifle was also found in the gun cabinet, and Mitchell reported had access to both firearms, which is a violation because he has two prior felony convictions.

Mitchell is in the Texas County Jail on $200,000 bond.
