An informational meeting has been announced for later this month to discuss school threats and how they are handled.
The session is from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, inside Hiett Gymnasiun on the campus of Houston Schools. It will feature Dr. Allen Moss, superintendent, as well as Houston Police Chief Tim Ceplina and Texas County Prosecutor Parke Stevens Jr.
The meeting is open to the public.
Among the topics to be discussed are the school’s actions in a lockdown or threat scenario, law enforcement’s role in those events and the consequences of these types of actions legally. Ceplina said officials will also discuss the parents’ roles in these issues as well as the role of social media — both with information and misinformation.
Ceplina said there has also been mention of a parent group being formed to help one another during difficult times.
The announcement of the meeting came two weeks after a 16-year-old student at Houston High School made shooting threats on campus. The student was referred to juvenile authorities and disciplined by the district.
