The Houston school board extended the contract of second-year boys’ basketball coach Rod Gorman during Tuesday’s monthly meeting.
Gorman was also extended a contact for the 2018-’19 school year as a part-time high school physical education teacher. He served in that same role this past year.
The board also hired Lyman Brown (part-time high school science), Patricia Gresham (middle and high school special education) and Kimberley Langston (part-time speech-language pathologist for the Exceptional Child Cooperative) for next year.
Resignations were accepted from Amber Stephens (middle school principal), Michelle Williams-King (high school English) and Lindsay Starr (second grade).
Also during the meeting, school board members:
•Approved Clay Ashworth as a volunteer high school assistant football coach for the 2018-’19 school year.
•Unanimously extended contracts for all probationary teachers except for Shane Wright and Katelyn Hodges. Wright received a 5-2 vote with Curtis Hubbs and Darren Ice dissenting. Hodges received 5-2 approval with Ice and Christie Koch dissenting.
•Heard for the second straight session from patron Christie Koch regarding her efforts to build new restrooms at the high school football field. She will return next month with blueprints.
•Received information from Michael Weakly, technology director, about a possible new intercom and bell system for the campus.
•Were praised by sponsor Jason Pounds and several high school students for approving the HHS academic team’s recent trip to the Holocaust Museum in Terre Haute, Ind.
•Met with parent Mary Cichon in closed session and heard from parent Holli Brooks in open session with concerns about graduation seating and curriculum.
