Houston Schools uncovered two concerning situations Tuesday. The first was the discovery of a bullet on campus and second were threatening comments made by a student. Here’s a timeline of the situation as shared by Dr. Allen Moss, superintendent:
TUESDAY
• 2:30 p.m. – A student turns a .45 caliber bullet into the office. It was found in a hallway of the high school. The Houston Police Department is notified.
• 3:30 p.m. – Concerning comments related to the Florida school shooting by a fellow student are reported to HHS principal Amy Smith. School had already dismissed.
• 4 p.m. – Smith contacts high school parents via email to tell them a bullet was found in the hallway.
• 4-8 p.m. – Houston police review video surveillance footage of the hallway where the bullet was found and conduct interviews with students related to the apparent threats made. They do not believe the two are related.
• 7:52 p.m. – Houston Police Chief Tim Ceplina notifies the Herald of the school shooting threats. Says a 16-year-old male student will face charges from juvenile authorities.
• 8 p.m. – Dr. Allen Moss, superintendent, and other school officials – who had all been at the “top 5 banquet” at Faith Fellowship – meet at the Houston Police Department to discuss evidence from the investigation of the school threat.
• 8:07 p.m. – Moss contacts the Herald to share more information about the school threats.
• 8:10 p.m. – Moss calls Houston school board members to inform them of the situation.
• 8:20 p.m. – Via its Facebook page, the school district makes a public statement about the “possible shooting threat.”
• 8:30 p.m. – The Herald releases a story on the school situation with comments from Ceplina and Moss.
WEDNESDAY
• 7:15 a.m. – A staff meeting is held to share information and answer questions with school personnel.
• 7:20 a.m. – A second public statement is posted on the district’s Facebook page.
• 7:30 a.m. – Five members of the Houston Police Department and three members of the Texas County Sheriff’s Department are present inside and outside of buildings on campus.
• 8:42 a.m. – Ceplina says “everything is calm at the school” and that students have been sharing information with officers on campus.
• 10 a.m. – The parent of the HHS student who made the alleged threats shares on Facebook that it was her son.
