I have a few things to report on.
There is a new scam circulating soliciting contributions for fictitious veterans groups. Mostly these are through unsolicited phone calls. I’ve found that if the person refuses to give a call back number or address the operation is a scam. The best way to donate to a veterans organization is donate locally. There are several chapters of the American Legion, VFW, DAV, etc. around the county. Each post or branch has programs to assist local veterans and their dependents.
I am always available to provide more information to any interested group. Just contact me.
A rumor about town is that American Legion Post 41 in Houston is closed. That is false. Membership is at an all time low and participation is almost as low, but the core of the post is working to turn around the membership trend. Part of which was the decision by post trustees to place the building on the market. There are a great many variables that came into play on this choice. The end result is that the property will be sold shortly.
The planned Veterans Fair in Houston is moving along. The date is Armed Forces Day (Saturday, May 19), and the location is Post 41 next to Pizza Hut in Houston. Many guests, political leaders and representatives are expected to be in attendance (some will only be available for a short time due to schedules).
The weekly meeting at Post 41 has been moved to Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; generally coffee and pastries are available. The next monthly meeting will be the second Thursday of May, which will include the nomination and election of officers for the next year. I encourage all members to attend and I’ll be looking forward to seeing new faces.
