Houston’s doubles duo of Isaiah Buse and Kyler Ramsey won the West Plains Tournament last Wednesday.
The HHS sophomores topped the field in the eight-team tournament, beating a team from Forsyth 8-4 for the championship. Buse and Ramsey won their opener 8-2 against West Plains and knocked off top-seeded Rogersville 8-1.
The pair are 6-2 in head-to-head play and 5-1 in tournaments this season.
“It was a great day for the tennis team,” coach John Jordan said. “Kyler and Isaiah only keep getting better.”
The Houston doubles team of Grady Todd and Trenton Smith finished third in the B Flight. They went 2-1 with an 8-5 win against Liberty and 8-4 victory over Rolla.
Kyle Mills and Elliott Clark finished seventh in the C Flight. After two loses, they defeated Springfield Hillcrest 8-3.
“Grady and Trenton struggled early this season but are starting to put wins together,” Jordan said, “and Kyle and Elliott hit the ball well and should have finished higher in their flight.”
On Tuesday, the Tigers edged Rolla 5-4 on the road.
Houston won the top four singles matches. Buse was an 8-3 winner, Todd and Smith won their matchups 8-4 and Ramsey was victorious 8-5.
In doubles play, Todd and Smith won their matchup 8-2.
On Monday, Houston improved its team record to 5-3 with an 8-1 home win against Liberty.
Ramsey, Mills and Clark won their singles matches 8-1. Buse was an 8-2 winner and Todd was victorious 8-3.
Houston swept the three doubles matches. Mills and Clayton Moore led the way with an 8-1 win.
JUNIOR VARSITY: Moore won his JV singles match 6-2. The doubles team of Robert Faupel and Katch Crawford won 6-2 and Kellsi Gayer and Kennedy Campbell were 7-5 winners.
