Charred property sits inside a large building at Simmons that was destroyed early Saturday morning by fire.

Personnel from two Texas County fire departments responded early Saturday morning to a blaze that destroyed one of three large industrial building at 4840 U.S. 63 in Simmons.

Houston Rural Fire Department Chief Don Gaston said the response around 6:30 a.m. included a tanker truck, two pumpers and a brush truck from his department and a tanker and pumper from the Cabool FD.

Gaston said several vehicles, boats and other items stored inside the building were lost to the super-hot blaze.

“There’s no telling what all was in there,” he said. “It was a heck of a fire.”

Gaston said a man and woman were asleep in an RV inside the building when the fire started. They were unharmed.

The property owner reportedly said the fire began with an oil-burning furnace.
