An investigation involving the Licking Police Department has resulted in felony charges against a Salem man who is accused of an illegal sexual act that allegedly occurred three years ago.

Damian R. Kurbursky, 21, of 502 S. Jackson St. in Salem, is charged with first-degree statutory sodomy – deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 14 years old.

According to a written report, an LPD officer was contacted Feb. 14 by a woman who is an investigator for the state Department of Social Services who said a hotline call had been received with regard to a girl who had told a school employee she had been subjected to sexual contact by Kurbursky.

Officers traveled to the girl’s house and made contact with her mother, who said she wasn’t aware of the allegations but agreed to help set up an interview with her daughter at the South Central Child Advocacy Center in West Plains.

The interview occurred on March 1, and the girl reportedly described an encounter when she was 5 years old and living in Licking at her grandmother’s house – Kurbursky’s mother.

On April 1, an LPD officer and a Salem Police Department officer went to Kurbursky’s home and made contact with him. During subsequent questioning, Kurbursky at first denied any illegal contact with the girl, but then changed his story and described a possible encounter.

Kurbursky is held in the Texas County Jail on $500,000 bond.
