Participants in this year's first gathering of the annual Mayor's Walking Club head out for a stroll Monday evening from Rutherford Park in western Houston. The club will meet Mondays and Thursdays on a rotating basis at either Rutherford Park, the Lone Star Plaza or Tiger Stadium at Houston High School. Walk sessions will take place at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day, with morning sessions hosted by Jim and Wilda McNiell and evening sessions by Houston Mayor Don Tottingham (or a person filling in for him). Tottingham, at left, is dressed for a city council meeting that took place the same evening. Club organizer Doris Scheuer said 88 people have signed up to walk this year. After the conclusion of the club, a banquet will take place on a date to be determined. For more information, call Scheuer at 417-967-3003.
