Tigers seeded sixth in district tourney they are hosting

The Class 3 District 10 tournament is coming to Houston.

The Tigers are seeded sixth in the postseason bracket that they will host. Play begins Friday.

Districts kick off with No. 2 Mountain Grove facing seventh-seeded Liberty at noon. Houston, seeded sixth, faces No. 3 Licking at 2:30 p.m.

In the top half of the bracket, No. 1 Ava received a first-round bye and will face No. 4 Willow Springs or fifth-seeded Cabool in the semifinals. That matchup is 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The semifinals are 2 and 4:30 p.m. Monday. The championship game is 5 p.m. Tuesday.

TIGERS GET FIRST SCA WIN IN CONVINCING WAY

The Tigers pounded out 17 hits and Braedin Groff threw six shutout innings as HHS blanked Liberty 12-0 on the road last Tuesday.

Freshman Alex Castleman was 3-for-4 with five RBIs to lead the Houston offense. Sterling Jackson also had three hits and Ty McCloud scored four times.

Groff, who got his first win of the season, struck out eight batters and walked none. He allowed four hits.

Houston (7-15, 1-6 South Central Association) went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first inning on Gavin Alston’s two-out single to left field to score Jackson.

The Tigers broke the game open with five runs in the second, highlighted by two-run singles by Connor Wilson and Castleman.

Castleman’s third-inning single put HHS ahead 8-0.

HHS BLOWS BIG LEAD IN ROAD LOSS AT PLATO

Houston blew a 5-0 third-inning lead and lost 6-5 Friday at Plato.

Alston had three of the Tigers’ eight hits. Wilson hit his first career home run –– a solo shot in the bottom of the third.
