Barry Winslow, lead singer of the '60s rock group, The Royal Guardsmen, will kick off the summer reading program at the Summersville branch of the Texas County library.

The Summersville branch of Texas County library will kick off its “Libraries Rock!” Summer Reading Program with a visit from a real rock star at 1 p.m. Friday, June 29.

Though he presently sings contemporary Christian music, Barry Winslow was the lead singer for the rock group known as the Royal Guardsmen in the late 1960s. In 1968, they rocked “Snoopy and the Red Baron” to the top of the music charts before “Snoopy’s Christmas” went platinum.

All ages are invited to meet Winslow. Music and autographs are planned.

McDonald’s in Mountain View has donated Snoopy Happy Meal toys to the first 25 children who sign up for summer reading.

Activities will be on Mondays and Fridays at 1 p.m. June 29 – July 27.
