Houston Schools has selected Josh Green as the district’s first-ever school resource officer.
Green, an officer with the Houston Police Department, was approved for the position Tuesday night by the school board. His duties officially begin July 1.
Green will remain an official employee of the City of Houston, which will provide his vehicle and uniform while paying 25 percent of his salary. He will work full-time at the school when classes are in session and be available to the city during the summer.
Green, 31, is a Houston High School graduate with a decade of law enforcement experience. He joined the Licking Police Department after graduating from the state’s law enforcement academy and after 4 1/2 years, there worked the next four with the Cabool Police Department. He led the agency’s K-9 program for three years.
Green joined the Houston Police Department in May 2017. His vacancy will be filled by Brad Evans, who resigned last week as Houston’s economic developer to return to the police force.
