TEXAS COUNTY GENEALOGICAL AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Texas County Genealogical and Historical Society met Friday, July 13, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Houston. Sixteen members and guests attended.

Marie Lasater, coroner of Texas County, a registered nurse for 39 years and owner of the Licking News, spoke to the group on medicinal plants. She is a published author on medicine plants.

Some notes: God has given us everything we need to cure diseases right on this earth. Sassafras roots are very popular in the spring for a tonic. She presented information on special uses for dandelion, plantain, sweet gum balls, milk thistle and May apples. Lasater’s presentation was enjoyed.

The next meeting is Aug. 10.
