The Pregnancy Resource Center of South Central Missouri (PRC) will host its second annual “Pulling for a Heartbeat” truck pull competition Saturday night (July 14) at the Raymondville Fairgrounds.
PRC officials said the event promises to be bigger and better than ever, and feature numerous vehicles in many categories.
The event is one of many fundraisers sponsored annually by the PRC. Founded in the summer of 2016, the non-profit PRC now serves 176 clients who hail from Houston and 18 surrounding communities.
“Fundraising is the thing that helps keep our doors open and provide so many choices and strengthen so many families that some to us,” said PRC director Debra Stockard.
Located on Pine Street in Houston, the PRC, of course, offers assistance to pregnant women, but its services go way beyond that, Stockard said.
“We do a lot more than pregnancy testing and ultrasounds,” she said. “We even work closely with the Department of Family Services for people who are trying to get their kids back.”
In addition to women, classes for men are available.
“We have new material for men,” Stockard said. “We have a lot of guys come here, and we’re excited about that.”
The PRC’s classes and information are presented from a Christian standpoint.
“We teach life-skills that helps people with everything from getting a job to how to budget their money and even how to buy a car,” Stockard said. “We try to offer everything so when someone is finished here they know how to be on their feet.”
The PRC offers the “Mother Goose’s Corner,” which is stocked with a variety of household goods available to anyone at about 50-percent off normal prices.
Saturday’s truck pull event will also feature a mechanical bull for people to try to ride, and several new food vendors will be on hand. Also, a large variety of items and services will be raffled off.
Tickets are $10, or $5 for kids ages 6-to-12. Kids 5-and-under get in free. Gates open at 5 p.m. and pulling starts at 7. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs due to limited bleacher seating.
