The following are excerpts from reports generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

• A 38-year-old Houston woman called June 28 to report she was engaged in a fight with her 47-year-old husband at a Highway E residence.

The woman told an investigating officer the man had choked her. The officer checked the woman for marks or bruising and didn’t observe any signs to substantiate her claim.

Neither person wanted to pursue charges.

• Deputies were dispatched May 24 regarding a report of theft of electricity at a Highway E trailer park at Houston.

The officers made contact with an Intercounty Electric Cooperative representative who showed them that an electric meter at Lot 1 had been tampered with. No contact was made with the people living in the trailer and investigation continues.

• A 47-year-old Houston man came to the TCSD office May 24 to report that several items with a total value of $1,950 had been stolen from his Highway E residence. A 60-year-old Houston man was named as a suspect.

• A deputy was dispatched at about 12:10 p.m. June 27 to check the well-being of an unreported person or people at a Ware Road residence at Licking.

Upon arrival, the officer observed undisturbed waist-high grass all around the home. The officer knocked on the unlocked front door and then entered the residence and announced his presence after nobody answered.

The deputy noted that it appeared nobody had lived there for months.

• An officer responded at about 10:15 p.m. June 26 after a woman reported hearing two gunshots come from the house across the street from her Old Salem Road residence at Licking.

The officer made contact with a 29-year-old man at the location who said he had shot an animal (of unreported species) that was inside his dumpster. He showed the officer the dead animal.

• On June 1, a deputy assisted a Department of Family Services representative with an investigation regarding a report that a 39-year-old woman was using her kids to sell drugs at her Jackson Road residence at Willow Springs. After speaking with the woman, the officer determined the report was unfounded.

• A deputy was dispatched at about 2:25 p.m. June 23 after the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department requested a well-being check of a possibly suicidal man at a Highway 32 residence at Licking.

Phelps County authorities reportedly said the man’s wife had called and said the man had left their house and was making threats about harming himself. She stated he was probably on the way to his mother’s house.

Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the man, who was building a new porch on the side of the house. The officer told the man why he was there, and the man said he had been arguing with his wife after she accused him of cheating on her and that he had no plans to harm himself.

• A deputy was dispatched at about 4:15 a.m. June 25 about a possible burglary in progress at a Slabtown Road residence at Licking.

The officer made contact with a man who lives there who said he heard a vehicle’s horn honking and believed someone was inside his neighbor’s shed. The officer made contact with the neighbor man, and after the shed was observed the determination was made that nobody had been there and nothing had been swiped.

• A deputy was dispatched at about 7:30 p.m. June 24 regarding a report of a party involving underage drinking at Austin Lake at Mountain Grove. The officer was unable to locate a party or anyone drinking.
