Bryce Cameron Ash, 24, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at Texas County Memorial Hospital, Houston.

He was born Jan. 8, 1994, in Joplin, son of Stephen and Karen Ash.

He grew up in Joplin and graduated from Joplin High School. He signed with Missouri Valley College to play baseball and major in education and history.

He met his fiancee, Kalena Marie Freitas, at college where he was her orientation group leader. Shortly thereafter they began dating. They were engaged and had planned to be married in September 2019.

He and his family attended New Beginnings Baptist Church of Bucyrus.

He was attending school at Missouri State University in West Plains and worked at Russell Cellular in Houston.

He was an avid lover of sports and competition. He played soccer, football, basketball, baseball and golf. He was a passionate follower of the St. Louis Cardinals, Oklahoma State Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens.

He loved animals. He and Kalena were Friends of the Zoo in Springfield. They had four animals of their own, two dogs and two cats.

He was preceded in death by his fiancee, Kalena, in the fatal car wreck.

Survivors include a son, Brylon Michael Ash; his parents, Stephen and Karen Ash of Joplin, two brothers, Tristan Ash and Bryce Lawless, of Joplin; and a grandfather.

A celebration of life was Aug. 21, at New Beginnings Baptist Church, Bucyrus. A second is 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory in Joplin. Cremation was under the direction of Evans Funeral Home, Houston.
