Commission, sheriff discuss moves

Members of the Texas County Commission heard from interim sheriff Rowdy Douglas about several personnel matters during a meeting on July 25.

The meeting, the minutes of which were released on Aug. 2, came one day after Douglas received the oath of office.

These hirings were reported:

• Dorsey “Gene” Foster as a part-time dispatcher.

• Charlie Loni Jones as full-time dispatcher.

• Andrew Edwards as full-time dispatcher.

• Heather Reynolds as full-time administrative secretary.

• Cheryl Reeder as fulltime dispatcher.

• Chris Maddox as parttime dispatcher.

• Brenda Rowles as fulltime corrections officer.

• Mark Etchason as fulltime corrections officer.

• Conner Burns from full-time deputy to corrections officer.

• Dameon Shaw as fulltime sheriff’s deputy.

• Gregory Ryan as fulltime sheriff’s deputy.

• Brent Honeycutt as full-time sheriff’s deputy.

• Jason Wink as fulltime sheriff’s deputy.

• Kenneth Reynolds as full-time sheriff’s deputy.

• Reuben Salazar as fulltime sheriff’s deputy. These terminations and resignations were discussed:

• Jennifer Tomaszewski, chief deputy, was fired July 18 by acting administrative sheriff Marie Lasater, coroner.

• Carrissa Cockrum resigned immediately as administrative secretary.

• Nathan Cockrum resigned immediately as deputy sheriff.

• Tammy Battles-Orchard, dispatch chief, was fired July 24.

• Christopher Fortune, corrections officer, resigned July 25.

• Nicole Collins resigned as full-time dispatcher on July 25.

• Nathan Long resigned as full-time deputy July 24.

According to the minutes, several hirings, terminations and resignations were discussed with the commissioners for payroll changes.

Previously damaged vehicles were discussed and those not operational. Radios have been ordered for those vehicles not having them. A Chevrolet Tahoe, which is unusable, will be sold for scrap.

In other matters, members:

• Met with Parke Stevens Jr. regarding several issues. An employee in his office, Dawn Fisher, is departing Aug. 24.

• Read correspondence from its insurance carrier, Trident Insurance.

• Are seeking propane bids until Aug. 7. An award will come the following day.

• Heard from Donnie Wilson, Houston city councilman.

Members noted they had an emergency closed session on July 23 to discuss pending legal issues.
