The blaze was reported about 2 p.m. A neighbor said he smelled smoke and called 911. The house is between Oak and Chestnut streets. Houston, Houston Rural, Licking, Cabool and Raymondville departments assisted. Firefighters were able to save the structure. There was extensive smoke damage.
Last Thursday, personnel with the Houston Rural Fire Department responded to a grass fire in a fence row on Gettys Road southeast of Houston.
