SLOAN

A Houston woman has been announced as the next director of the Houston Parks and Recreation Department.

Kayla Sloan was recommended by the Houston Park Board following interviews and approved Monday by the Houston City Council. Sloan, the wife of head Houston High School football coach Eric Sloan, replaces Rowdy Douglas, who left for the Texas County Sheriff’s Department and was later named interim sheriff.

Sloan will oversee various recreation programs offered in the community and the operation of the Houston Municipal Swimming Pool.

City Administrator Tona Bowen said Sloan will be able to successfully interface with the public and provide leadership as the park board considers construction of a recreational center in Houston. Sloan holds a leadership post with Mary Kay as an independent sales director.

Sloan started her new position Wednesday.
