JASMINE ATKINSON

A Licking woman faces three felony charges and two misdemeanor charges following a Licking Police Department investigation of an incident Aug. 17. One officer was injured.

The suspect in the cases – Jasmine A. Atkinson, 23, of 120 Brooke St., Apt. 8 – is charged with first degree burglary (a class B felony), third-degree assault – special victim (a class D felony), resisting of interfering with an arrest for a felony (a class E felony), and misdemeanors of fourth-degree domestic assault and second-degree property damage.

An LPD officer reported that he was dispatched at about 7:40 p.m. to a Brooke Street apartment after Atkinson allegedly unlawfully entered the dwelling with the intent of assaulting a guest who is her former boyfriend and the father of her children.

The officer made contact with the man outside the apartment complex, and he reportedly stated Atkinson kicked in the front door to the apartment after the guest had entered and closed the door. The officer went to Atkinson’s next-door apartment, knocked on the door (which then pushed open) announced his presence, observed her inside and entered.

Atkinson was observed sitting on a bed and immediately became combative. As the officer attempted to arrest her for burglary, she reportedly punched him in the chest and resisted. A second officer arrived and helped apprehend her.

As she was escorted to a patrol vehicle and placed inside, Atkinson continued to resist, according to a report.  As the officer began moving the car, she tried to head-butt him while cursing at him. Atkinson then kicked and cracked the car’s windshield and tore the rear view mirror from its mount, according to a report.

She was ultimately transported to the Texas County Jail. The officer reported feeling a sharp pain in his shoulder due to Atkinson’s actions, and sought medical attention at Texas County Memorial Hospital and was released.

Atkinson is held on $250,000 bond.
