Texas County has received its first check related to the collection of sales tax on internet sales, the county commission heard last week.
It collected $3,082, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue. The levy was approved by voters in April.
In other matters, members:
—Learned the county library director has resigned. A former leader, Audrey Barnhart, is serving in an interim role.
—Heard from attorney Kimberly Lowe related to a class action lawsuit involving opioids that would hold manufacturers and distributors accountable.
—Received an inquiry about Texas County participation in the national flood plain program. Commissioners decided not to participate.
—Heard from prosecutor Parke Stevens Jr. regarding several township issues.
—Met with Sheriff Rowdy Douglas on matters related to titles for vehicles, employees and food service.
—Acknowledged several personnel matters: Stephanie Hawkes terminated as correctional officer on Sept. 7 and Zachary Thurman on Sept. 6. Hiring of correctional officers: Alex Flores, Sept. 6; Joshua Hurst, Sept. 13; and Mick Wehling, Sept. 11. Andrew Edwards was promoted to corrections supervisor on Sept. 6.
