The City of Houston is studying priorities for sidewalks that possibly could be financed primarily through a grant program.
Two top selections include an area on U.S. 63 near Subway to First Street and King Street from Chestnut to Westside Park.
A final decision is set for the council’s meeting on Monday. Under the program, the city’s share would be 20 percent.
In other matters, members:
•Heard from Angie Quinlan, chamber executive director, who reported that by year’s end the organization will have sponsored 22 events. A recent demolition derby attracted 1,090 to the fairgrounds on North U.S. 63. Another event is Saturday. She also reported that she is attempting to land the Vietnam memorial, “The Wall that Heals,” to the community.
•Approved some changes in the Houston Police Department’s general orders as composed by the police chief.
•Accepted a bid from Landmark Bank as the depository for the City of Houston. The institution will pay a fixed rate of 2.51 percent. Progressive Ozark Bank also submitted a bid. The move is effective Oct. 1.
•Held the first reading of an ordinance that sets rental fees for hangars at the Houston Memorial Airport.
•Agreed to make its annual contribution of $1,500 to allow youth to attend next month’s Missouri Community Betterment Conference.
•Approved a one-year contract renewal for refuse services by WCA.
•Heard City Administrator Tona Bowen inquiry for dates to meet to work on the 2019 budget and city employee job descriptions.
•Learned the city’s new economic development director had submitted a request for his 2019 budget.
•Accepted the resignation of Jeremy St. John as the emergency management director effective on Nov. 1.
•Adjourned into a closed session to discuss personnel.
