Sales tax revenue in the City of Houston was up about 1.6 percent during the latest monthly distribution compared to the same period in 2017, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.
The tally was $69,930, which was an increase of $1,094 from the same period last year. For the first eight months of the year, $482,980 has been collected by merchants. That’s nearly unchanged from last year.
Retailers also collect two, quarter-cent sales taxes for streets, sidewalks and utility work. Each totaled $17,242. For the year, $117,330 has been collected. That’s nearly unchanged from 2017.
For the first time, the city receives funds from sales taxes on internet. Voters approve a measure to collect them earlier this year. The total was $829.
