Lady Tigers top Cuba for first win of season

Kennedy Campbell had six kills and three aces as the Houston volleyball team topped Cuba 2522, 25-23 on the road last Thursday night for the team’s first victory of 2018.

Alexis Choate had a team-best eight assists for the Lady Tigers (1-5). Melody Buse had nine digs.

HHS coach Loran Richardson said her team had its best hitting match of the season with four of the team’s six attackers at better than .200.

“It will really make a difference for us this season if we can continue to attack like we did last night,” she said.

The Lady Tigers actually fell behind 22-19 in the second set before scoring six of the final seven points to close out the match.

“What I’m most proud of though is the fact that we were communicating and competing from the beginning of the game until the very end,” Richard son said. “We have some tough matches coming up, but if we play like we did last night, we will be in every game.”

JUNIOR VARSITY: Mali Brookshire had six aces and three kills in the Houston JV volleyball team’s 25-8, 26-24 win Thursday night at Cuba.

Freshman Sara Purcell had two blocks.

Houston also won the C set 26-24 to start the night for a sweep of Cuba.
