Deer harvest numbers

Members of the Texas County Commission transacted several items of business during a meeting Oct. 3.

Commissioners:

—Heard from Mike Scott of Barker Phillips Jackson related to employee health insurance. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield coverage was set to increase about 5.5 percent, but 2 percent could be saved if a contract was executed before Oct. 18.

—Visited with Sheriff Rowdy Douglas on personnel, food service that is set to be taken over by the county rather than a vendor to save money, accounts payable, a recent auditor’s report on the state’s sex offender register and recent training on new Taser equipment.

—Heard from Melissa Littleshield and Moiria Seiber with Christos House and signed a proclamation on domestic violence.

—Received an update on a new Piney Township bridge at Lundy. Don Gaston of the township reported local labor was used and the entity’s purchase of the concrete had resulted in a better-built bridge for less money. FEMA funds were also used in the project.

—Heard from County Prosecutor Parke Stevens Jr. about Senate Bill 892 that modifies various provisions related to retirement plans for public employees.

—Visited with attorney Pat Keck of Springfield to clarify a billing statement.
