Memorial service: Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Palm Beach National Chapel and Funeral Home, Lake Worth, Fla.

Friedel Brinegar passed away on Oct. 17, 2018, joining her beloved husband, Louis Brinegar, on what would have been their 65th wedding anniversary. She passed away in Atlantis, Fla., with her daughters by her side. Friedel was born on Aug. 30, 1931, in Schwetzingen, Germany, to George and Elizabeth Kellner.

Friedel met Louis in Heidelberg, Germany, in 1951 at a USO dance. They were married in 1953 in Schwetzingen, Germany, at the Gasthaus on the same street as her parents. That year they were transferred to the United States to Fort Belvoir, Va., where they had their first child, Allen. Friedel proudly became a United States citizen. Two years later they were transferred back to Kaiserslautern, Germany, where they had their second child, Dorothy. In 1963, Louis retired from the Army in Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and relocated to Houston, Mo., where they had their third child, Iris, in 1968.

Friedel was a homemaker that loved to bake and spend time with her family and many friends. She was loved for her outgoing and feisty spirit. Friedel enjoyed volunteering at the Army Hospital and her church.

Friedel Brinegar was preceded in death by her husband, Louis in 2005, and is survived by her sister, Helga Drechsler of Schwetzingen, Germany; her son, Allen Brinegar (Robin Rose) of Delray Beach, Fla.; and daughters, Dorothy Taylor (Steve) of Wellington, Fla., and Iris Widiger (Gary) of Fenton, Mo. Friedel is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Angie Walshe (Brian), Kevin and Christopher Brinegar, Mitchell and Jack Widiger, and Connor and Kylie Walshe.

The memorial service was held Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Palm Beach National Chapel and Funeral Home in Lake Worth, Fla., with burial afterward in the South Florida National Cemetery.

Donations may be sent to the American Heart Association or St. Jude’s Research Hospital in her honor.
