The feeder cattle sale sponsored by the Texas County Livestock Association grossed $93,200 with 48 consignors participating. Thirty buyers bought 744 calves.
The state Jaycee organization is staging a contest for “Outstanding Young Woman of the Year” for Missouri and the Houston Jaycee chapter received these nominations: Barbara Kirksey, Charlotte Sutton, Dorothy Isom, Kathy Romines, Joyce Campbell, Glenda Barnhill and Mary Lou Troutman.
D.P. Burnside of Cabool, Texas County Republican chairman, announced the county GOP headquarters has been opened on Main Street, opposite the Houston City Hall. Democrats announced their headquarters will be located in a trailer on Main Street, between the Otasco Store and Wolford Monument Co.
Channel 27, Springfield, the ABC affiliate, was added to the Houston Cable system. The new channel recently went on the air providing Springfield with all three networks.
George Foster announced a write-in campaign for sheriff on the Democratic Ticket.
