A Halloween event — Downtown Trick or Treat — is planned for Wednesday (Oct. 31) on Grand Avenue in downtown Houston.

The annual activity will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and allow children to receive candy and participate in several activities. Families and businesses are encouraged to set up a booth to distribute goodies.

Event organizer Louise Sciotto said that as of the middle of last week, 26 businesses and organizations had committed to setting up stations along the roadway.

“We’re doing better than I thought we might, but not as well as I hoped,” Sciotto said.

The Stars Foundation clogging group plans to set up a dance floor and entertain attendees at Grand Avenue and Pine Street. Sciotto said an account for monetary donations has been set up at Landmark Bank under the name Downtown Houston Trick-or-Treating.

“We’ve had several people say they’re just ‘donated out’ for the year,” she said. “This will allow people to donate at the beginning of the year, or any other time of year.”

Sciotto said one organization will not be participating this year that had been a fixture at the event for years and typically offered food and set up a bounce house for kids to play in.

“We’re hoping another organization or church will step up and do the same type of thing,” she said.

Anyone who would like to set up a booth, offer financial assistance or donate candy can call Sciotto at 417-217-4179 or Stephanie Groff at 417-260-5110.
