SHERMAN HENDRICKSON

Sherman Hendrickson of Cabool, Mo., passed away at the Kabul Nursing Home on Sept. 29, 2018. Sherman was born on Nov. 23, 1938, to Herschel and Tennie (Holmes) Hendrickson. He was 79 years of age.

Sherman was preceded in death by his sister, Mary; his father, Herschel; and his mother, Tennie. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn of Cabool; a son, Andrew Noponen and his wife, Sherry, of Noel, Mo.; two daughters, Mary Kendrick of Muskogee, Okla., and Loretta Helm and her husband, Cecil, of Haltom City, Texas; eight grandchildren, Heath, Amber, Dustin, Brandye, Anna, Shawn, Brandon and Chance; and nine great-grandchildren, Haley, Gauge, Gunner, Adalynn, Kaelyn, Tatum, Brennan, Dason and Caden.

Sherman was born in Quitman, Ark. He grew up on the farm and picked cotton as a young boy. In October 1957, he joined and served in the Navy until his honorable discharge on Dec. 6, 1961.

He settled in Houston, Mo., and served on the police force until he changed professions and went to work at Texas County Memorial Hospital in security. He loved this job and it suited him well. In 1976, he met Carolyn Hendrickson, who also worked at the hospital. On Feb. 16, 1977, they were wed in the First Christian Church of Houston where they were members.

Sherman always claimed to be part gypsy and loved moving to new places. This sense of adventure moved them across Missouri and Arkansas and eventually would bring them back again to take care of their aging parents.

Sherman loved to tell stories of his past and even of his Indian ancestry. His storytelling, though mostly unverified, was always at the very least entertaining to the listener. He loved everything Western, from movies to pictures to collectibles from days gone by and he displayed his passion on every wall available.

Sherman was a good husband, father and grandfather. He was proud of his children and made sure they knew that in his final days. He lived his life simply, believed in God, helped others when he could and was prepared to leave this world for his eternal peace. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, please take a loved one to dinner in Sherman’s honor. As he wished there will be no funeral service. Cremation was under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.evansfh.com.
