Members of the Texas County Commission heard several matters during meetings on Nov. 7-8. Among the matters handled were:

• Will discontinue the county jail’s food service with Consolidated Food Service. The decision came after a meeting with Parke Stevens Jr., prosecuting attorney; Rowdy Douglas, sheriff; and Scott Lindsey, sheriff-elect.

• Heard that direct deposit payroll checks will be handled by Landmark Bank effective January 2019.

• Reviewed the county clerk’s Sunshine Law request policy and heard from George Sholtz related to questions he had submitted in writing.

• Heard from Ben Trout III of EPM Inc., of Fulton, whose firm was earlier selected to provide computerized temperature control systems for the county. Payments to EPM, bond questions and warranty information was discussed.

• Learned that Friday, Nov. 23, will be a state holiday in a letter from Circuit Judge John Beger.

• Received correspondence from attorney Kimberly Lowe regarding a resolution passed by the commission on the state’s opioid crisis. A notice will be published in the Houston Herald for three weeks pursuant to statute.

• Will send correspondence referencing a bridge in the city limits of Cabool on Cannaday Lane and to Burdine Township regarding Oriole Road.

• Met at the justice center multipurpose room for active shooting training. According to the minutes, three elected offices did not participate from the administrative center.
