President Harry S Truman came to Houston for the dedication of the Texas County Memorial Hospital and more than 5,000 showed up for his address in front of the new hospital building. He was introduced by Lee Kirkman, Cabool board member. Dr. Wallace Graham, the former president’s physician, accompanied Truman to Houston. Roy Wall, chairman of the board, welcomed the crowd. In addition to other dignitaries, Congressmen Charlie Brown of Springfield and Alvin O’Konski of Wisconsin were on the platform. They were here for a dairy meeting. Mr. Truman privately explained that he came to Houston because of his long-time friendship with Dr. T.J. Burns, a local physician.

State Rep. Richard Ichord will become speaker of the House of Representatives. The post was assured for Ichord following a caucus by the Democratic members of the House. He succeeds Roy Hamlin.

Houston won its first basketball game of the season defeating Hartville, 63-59.

Ozark Air Lines has asked for permission to service the Rolla area.
