The City of Houston Fire Department's 2008 Pierce Saber fire truck was purchased from a department in Iowa for 75,000.

The Houston City Council purchased about $54,000 in equipment for a new fire truck during a special meeting on Thursday.

Members approved buying self-contained breathing apparatus and other necessary equipment (nozzles and hose) to be able to place the new fire truck into service. The city recently added a used truck for $175,000.

The purchase was from Feld Fire. 

The total cost of the equipment is $54,027 and brings the total cost to be paid from reserves to $229,027. 

The council had earlier approved $250,000 from reserves for the fire truck.

The city will be pay itself back with 2.5 percent interest over 10 years.
