Ten members of the Houston High School football team were named last week to the all-SCA team.
Senior CJ Lee led the way with first-team selection at both linebacker and punter. Joining him on the first team was senior defensive back Paydon Dixon and sophomore defensive lineman Chris Cichon.
Sophomore Daniel Hutcheson was a second-team pick at running back. Two offensive linemen, Devin Wallander and Brecken Adey, and defensive lineman Aiden Sawyer were also selected to the second team.
Three Tigers –– offensive lineman Dawson Koch, linebacker Chance Mitchell and defensive back Connor Wilson –– received honorable mention.
Lee led the HHS defense with 96 tackles, including six tackles for losses. He also caused two fumbles and recovered a team-high four. As a punter, Lee averaged a conference-best 47.4 yards per kick.
Cichon had team highs of 13 tackles for losses and four sacks as the Tigers’ starting nose guard. He tied for the team led with four fumbles caused and recovered two. He also blocked four punts.
Dixon earned a spot on the first team for the second straight season with 62 tackles and two interceptions from his safety position. He returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown.
Hutcheson had a breakout season offensively for HHS as he rushed for 945 yards on 132 attempts –– an average of 7.2 –– and team-leading 11 touchdowns. He had four games over 100 yards, highlighted by a 252-yard performance with five touchdowns in Week 2 against Cuba.
Sawyer, a former linebacker who moved to the defensive line his senior season, tied for second on the team with seven tackles for losses. He had 39 total tackles.
Wallander, Adey and Koch were starters for an offensive line that paved the way for the Tigers’ 1,779 rushing yards and allowing just five sacks on 93 pass attempts. The team averaged 4.5 yards per carry.
Mitchell, a junior, was tied for second on the team with seven tackles for losses and ranked sixth with 53 total tackles. He had three interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, and two fumble recoveries.
Wilson, also a junior, had two interceptions at cornerback. He returned one for a touchdown. He had 25 total tackles.
