LEWIS A. GANDY

A Licking man faces a trio of felony charges following a Houston Police Department investigation of a Saturday incident at his girlfriend’s house that left her with injuries.

Lewis A. Gandy, 25, of 205 Maple Crest St. at Licking, is charged with first-degree domestic assault – serious injury (a class A felony), second-degree kidnapping (a class D felony) and animal abuse (a class E felony). He is held on $750,000 bond.

A police officer who responded shortly after noon to a disturbance at a Hickory Street residence reported that a woman there said her boyfriend had tried to kill her.

The woman told the officer Gandy had been spraying her with a spray bottle and wouldn’t quit when asked. She stated she got mad and kicked and broke a wall-mounted heater.

The woman told an officer Gandy then grabbed her by the hair and started swinging her around, and then began slapping her and punching her in the head. She said Gandy then let her go and told her to clean up the glass from the broken heater, but then grabbed her cat and choked it and tried to break its neck.

The woman told the officer she tried to stop Gandy, but he pushed her back and told her to get in a corner, which she did. She said Gandy then grabbed a belt and told her he was going to whip her with it. When she begged him not to, he allegedly grabbed a hammer and stated waving it near her face.

The woman told the officer she then ran for the door, but Gandy grabbed her hair, pulled her back into the house and slammed her to the ground. She stated Gandy then got on her back while she was face down and started hitting her again, punching her several times in both ears.

The woman said Gandy then let her up and told her to shower. She said she went into the bathroom and jumped out a window to seek help.

The officer reported observing blood coming from the woman’s left nostril, two lacerations in her mouth and contusions on the right side of her face and above her right eye.

A neighbor man told the officer he observed the woman try to escape and get pulled back inside by her hair.

The officer reported that Gandy stated the woman “is crazy and don’t take her pills.” Gandy reportedly stated the confrontation hadn’t been physical, but that he had grabbed the woman’s arm to get her to calm down.

The woman was taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital for treatment. The officer went there to speak to her and learned she had suffered a broken eardrum and possibly a fractured eye socket.
