The Texas County Commission conducted business over two days, Dec. 12-13.
During the sessions, members:
•Heard from Assessor Debbie James related to assessed valuations for the coming year.
•Reviewed correspondence from Upton Township regarding a cattle guard placed over a township road. The commission decided that maintenance of the road needs to continue over its full length and the cattle guard must be placed beyond it.
•Learned from Sheriff Scott Lindsey that a contest among students at area schools will be held to design graphics for a new patrol car. He also reported that Alibaale “Greg” Kwalume and Raymond Richardson will become full-time correction officers on Dec. 12.
•Heard for County Prosecutor Parke Stevens that his assistant, Nathan Kelaw, has resigned after his election as associate circuit judge in Dent County. Stevens and the commissioners also discussed a plan if Stevens, a Marine, is deployed in February. Nothing was finalized. The commission also authorized funds for a CPA opinion.
•Decided to sell a reserve vehicle to the City of Willow Springs.
•Authorized payment to an electric firm that did work following an electrical strike. The cost was reimbursed by insurance.
•Conducted an annual inspection of the justice center and jail.
•Heard from George Sholtz regarding a community improvement district in Houston and the University Extension office.
