A Cabool man faces a felony charge after a Cabool Police Department investigation of a firearm theft on Jan. 2.
Floyd Drumright, of 707 Oak St., is charged with stealing a firearm (a class D felony).
According to an officer’s report, information was received at about 5:45 a.m. regarding a man suspected of breaking into at least one vehicle seen running east on Broadway Street, wearing a black coat with a gray hood and blue jeans. As several officers searched for the suspect, a woman who works at the Sinclair gas station reported seeing a man wearing a red T-shirt and no jacket in freezing conditions come from behind the building and go across the street to Casey’s General Store.
Officers contacted the man as he exited Casey’s and observed he was sweating. The man told the officers he had been running and wasn’t wearing heavy clothing because he had come from his house to get a soda.
An officer asked why he had been seen behind the Sinclair station, and the man reportedly said he had to urinate.
The suspect had no identification, but said his name was David Drumright. Â Later, authorities said he identified himself as Floyd Drumright after a picture was obtained.
During a search of the area, officers found the black coat in the yard of a home on Main Street. A gray glove was found in a pocket of the coat, matching a glove an officer had found earlier, authorities said.
At that time, officers were advised that a Glock pistol had been swiped from a vehicle on Broadway Street.
During questioning, Drumright reportedly admitted to stealing the gun and a flashlight from a truck. Police were unable to find the items, but Drumright reportedly agreed to take officers to where they were, and the gun and flashlight were both located next to houses on Summit Street.
The CPD had received reports of several vehicle break-ins over a three-night period. Drumright reportedly denied involvement the previous two nights, and stated he hadn’t stolen anything other than what he was caught with that morning.
Drumright was taken to the Texas County Jail, with a bond set at $150,000.
