ELECTION 2019

Filings closed Tuesday for various county, city, school, water and other boards across the region. 

A race developed Friday for a position on the Houston City Council. Michael Weakly, who oversees the Houston School District’s computer operations, filed for the Ward II position. He will oppose Jeremy St. John, the incumbent.

On Monday, Joe Honeycutt, a longtime veteran of the council, filed paperwork  seeking the Ward I seat. Incumbent Donnie Wilson did not re-file.

In Ward III, incumbent Kim Bittle is seeking re-election. Willy Walker will be mayor. Don Tottingham did not seek re-election.

All the city seats are two-year terms.

For county offices, only one candidate filed for hospital board. He is  Allan Branstetter of Raymondville. The incumbent is Mark Hampton of Summersville. 

No one filed for county health board. The incumbents were Sally Smith and Linda Breedlove.

Raymondville School: Aaron Scantlin is seeking another three-year term. The other incumbent, Shalena Purcell, did not file. They are three-year terms.

At the Success School, the terms of Liz ReVelle and Adam Suda expire. ReVelle and Whitney Page filed.

At Plato Schools, Eric Crewse and Robert Murray are seeking two slots. Incumbent Darrell Thomas did not seek re-election.

Seeking seats on the Houston board of education are incumbent Jennifer Scheets, Tim Malam and Jeffery Gettys. The other incumbent, Curtis Hubbs, idid not seek re-election. The seats are for three years.
