The Houston Community Foundation announced this week the availability of four scholarships for county students aimed at vocational education and the medical field.

Thanks to recent donations to the local foundation totaling more than $57,000, the scholarships were created at request of an anonymous donor. Two $400 scholarships will be given in each category this year — for a total of $1,600.

Students wanting to apply can go to cfozarks.org/scholarships. In addition to these, other scholarship opportunities also are available. There are more than 400 scholarships on the website, and $1.4 million will be awarded. Students also can check with their school’s guidance department.

The local foundation includes funds that now total more than $600,000.

Persons wanting to learn more can contact board members Ron Reed, Ross Richardson, Kayla Sloan, Omanez Fockler, Jarid Scheets, Parke Stevens Jr., Tona Bowen, Kristin Hart, Brad Gentry or Rob Harrington.
