The City of Houston Fire Department is giving away smoke alarms and will install them for free.

Chief Robbie Smith said the department has acquired 24 Kidde Long Life smoke alarms via the “Sound the Alarm” program sponsored by the American Red Cross.

Smith said people living within the city limits can contact a firefighter or call 417-967-4777 for an appointment and a unit will be installed by department personnel at no charge.
